Frequently Asked Questions

I'm interested in services for myself or my child. What do I do?

If you are interested in participating in TIPES programming, please fill out our inquiry form (located under the "Connect" section of the website) or contact intake@tipes.ca with any questions you might have.

Can I access insurance to pay for therapy?

If you wish to access insurance in order to pay for therapy, your learner must be supervised by TIPES’ associate clinical psychologist, Dr. Sherman. Receipts can only be provided to submit to insurance if this criterion is met.

Who does TIPES service?

TIPES services individuals from pre-school age to adulthood. The TIPES centre services pre-school through elementary school learners. All youth and young adults are serviced off-site or in the community.

I want to work/volunteer with TIPES. What do I do?

All work and volunteer postings are listed under the “Opportunities” section of the website. We also post job openings on Indeed and LinkedIn. Please review the job/volunteer description and if you meet the criteria, please send your cover letter and resume to christine@tipes.ca.

Does TIPES accept placement students?

TIPES is happy to host placement students from high school to university and supports co-op placements as well as professional training programs. At TIPES, placement students gain experience working with learners with a variety of learning needs. All placement students work under the direct supervision of our senior therapists.

Is TIPES accepting new clients?

TIPES is always accepting new clients, however there is typically a waitlist for registration. The waitlist varies throughout the year, so please contact intake@tipes.ca for an accurate registration timeframe.

What does a typical day of in-centre therapy look like?

TIPES offers full-day programming from 8:30am–3:30pm. This includes a lunch break from 11:30am–12:30pm, as well as a 15-minute recess and a 15-minute nutrition break in the morning and afternoon. We also offer morning programming from 8:30am–11:30am or afternoon programming from 12:30pm–3:30pm. When a learner is dropped off at the centre, they are greeted outside the front door by their instructor therapist. If the instructor therapist is not there to greet the learner upon arrival, please buzz the upstairs office and a staff member will come down to greet the learner. The instructor therapist will walk the learner to their classroom where the learner will partake in individualized behavioural programming that incorporates common goals shared between the guardians, the clinical team, and the learner. At the end of the day, the learner and the instructor therapist will meet the learner’s guardian outside the centre’s entrance to go home.

I want to donate. Where do my donations go?

Unless otherwise noted, all donations go towards our scholarship fund. This fund helps clients without government funding afford therapy at TIPES. Funds are distributed equally among all qualifying clients once a year, or whenever possible. Please consider donating by clicking the “Donate” button on our website. Every little bit helps!

Is a diagnosis required to receive services?

A diagnosis is not required to receive services. In order to be reimbursed by insurance, however, a formal diagnosis is required.
