Life Skills

Functional life skills involve the everyday tasks we engage in to lead independent lives. Independence in life skills is an important part of a person’s well-being and integral in the development of self-esteem. Increasing an individual’s independence leads to increased educational, vocational, social, and residential opportunities as well as general community integration.

At TIPES we are pleased to offer life skills training for all learners! For some learners, this might look like strengthening communication, the inclusion of self-help skills in their IBI programming or support with developing independence in routines and chores at home.  For other learners, this may take the form of assistance with building a resume, applying for jobs, volunteering, grocery shopping, or ordering food at a restaurant. Just like all our other programming, our life skills training is based on the needs and goals of the individual and their family!
